Santacon, the gathering to entertain, enjoy and enthrall, starts by the mid of December every year. With the countdown of days to Christmas, people open up their enthusiastic mind forgetting all their works and jobs. Not alone is the fun being enjoyed in the America. The European cities soon started showing as lot of interest in the santacons at the end of each year.
The santacons is been happening in London every year from 2001. Very quickly, it attracted more than thousand Santas by the year 2007. After the bad events by 2005, it has been strictly organized and well controlled. With no interference of politics and riots, it is been accepted by everyone and there is a very healthy participation all over the country. The santacon in London is popularly called as “santhathon”, is a bit different from the santacons in America. However, the rules of conduct and the ethics are all common and more strictly followed in the European countries, especially in London.
One of the most strictly followed rules is that only those who wear the full Santa suit will be allowed to enter the santacon. With the basic name being santacon, it is also popularly known as naughty Santas, santarchy, Santa rampage, santapalooza etc in United States itself. The season of Christmas marks the most enjoyable month of the year for Americans. While that was the case some years back, the enjoyment and fun has attracted all the countries and drawn active participation from nook and corner of the world.

Santacon, a very popular mass gathering of people to enjoy the moments of Christmas was actually originated by the year 1994 in America. Soon after its advent, it started attracting the minds of many people and gave ultimate enjoyment to forget their sorrows and worries that surmounted them for the whole year. By the middle of December, people stop doing jobs and working out and start their enjoying spree. To ensure safety, rules were incorporated to avoid chaos and riots. This was the vital reason that attracted people from other countries to take part and add up to the enjoyment season. The cacophony society took the responsibility to start the enjoyment season by 1994.
The festival of santacon is being interpreted in different ways by different people. Some participants consider it as a revival of saturnalia while others see that as a precursor of flash mob. Whatever maybe the reason or cause, in a general view, it is a box full of fun and frolic that gives entry to everyone. Whatever may be your worry, whatever may be your moments of sorrow and sadness, santacon has the colorful answer for all of it. There are also a lot of rules being followed if one wants to participate in the santacon. More than in America, European countries have more strict rules to follow. One of the vital rules involves no violence and the dress code. Only people who wear full Santa suit would be allowed for the Santacon.

Santacon is a non-religious, non-political, not-for-profit & non-logical convention of people dressed up as Santa Claus. Even though Santacon has absolutely no reason, it happens in many major cities in the World.

This event needs some preparations. The participant should definitely bring some amount of money accompanied by a metro card valid throughout the day and their ID. The Santas initiate the invasion of bars with a spontaneous chant “Santa Needs A Beer!”. Some snacks and a bottle of water is a necessary commodity. It isn’t necessary to bring one’s own alcoholic beverages as the drinks will be of less cost at the bars that the Santas invade. Comfortable boots may prove as a good idea. Dresses that keep the body warm must be worn as it will be very cold while marching around outside. In case there is a point of being indoors and being overdressed, it is no great wrong with Santa stripping. It is of great importance to carry the Holiday Spirit. In the Santacon the Santa’s are let loose and are encouraged to make a mockery and act in a demented, disorienting and confusing manner to the holiday shoppers. And of course, the Santas shouldn’t forget to yell and sing naughty Christmas carols. They can also experiment with interpretive dance. But on the other hand, it should not make the people feel unsafe and not frighten away the children. Gifts that can be given out should be brought. And the most important thing is to wear Holiday/Santa/ whatever theme wardrobe. No spectators are allowed…EVERYONE PARTICIPATES!.

With the advent of December breeze, the whole nation is diverted towards carols and Santa gifts. While this is on the softer side of enjoyment, Santacon drives the enjoyment and fun to a greater height. Santacon, not alone in the core places of United States does the magic but also does it all over the world in vibrant colors. The local societies have showcased santacons in the main parts of America like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Detroit etc. By the year of 2003, the idea of Santacon has got propagated to over 30 cities in 3 to 4 countries.

By the start of 2005, the events were out of control. More and more of crimes and riots dominated the crowd and fights started all over. This sort of a nationwide behavior has been reported to the website and there has been a lot of control over the happenings and events that succeeded after the 2003 Santacon. Soon after the recovery of fun and enjoyment in the following years, there was a controlled and well organized enjoyment that followed. A lot of innovative and creative events were then organized to enthrall those at the gathering.

There was a lot of involvement and participation from the people of United States in the mass gathering. No one does any work after that start of the seasonal enjoyment. Children were so very excited with the suspense of gift they would get. This culture of gifting people was soon followed not only by the neighboring countries, but also by the west and the Middle East.
